Card Lamination and UV Ribbon Printing

How to Make Your ID Cards More Secure

ID card printers have been available for over 15 years. Over that time the printing technology has not changed tremendously, other than the printers themselves becoming more reliable and less expensive to operate. For many ID card users, a direct print on blank PVC will meet entry-level requirements and not present any substantial risk to the organization issuing the credential.
For organizations that place high importance on secure ID credentials that cannot be duplicated, it's a good idea to build in layers of card features that makes counterfeiting nearly impossible.

Printer Features

While there are many manufacturing aspects that can be introduced into the physical PVC card when it is made, there are also models of card printers that allow for secure printing and lamination.

Lamination

Available in either clear, standard holographic or custom holographic design, over-lamination is a secondary process that occurs after the YMCK or YMCK-UV printing. A physical lamination module and the appropriate lamination media is used to create this process that adds security and durability to your ID card program.

UV Ribbon

With this feature, ID cards can have a covert image produced on their ID card that is only visible with an ultra-violet light. In addition, printers can also print the unique serial number of the card printer on the ID card that verifies which ID printer the credential was printed from.

Any Card, Any Use

There are many options to address the right type of secure ID card production for your unique requirements. ID card printer ribbon and lamination materials are an excellent way to eliminate most efforts at counterfeiting your ID credentials.
